Day 16 – Keli Roberts (Kickboxing) and DVD Fitness Reviews

Netflix gives various DVDs you can instantly see on your television. I have about 15 DVDs on my instant Netflix Queue, but I haven’t been motivated to do them until I read a wordpress blog of someone, who sampled some workouts online and on Netflix . Reading her blog gave me that little push. Today I’m sampling kickboxing.

I’m including Netflix descriptions of each fitness DVD I’ve sampled.

10 Minute Solution: Kickbox Bootcamp

10 Minute Solution: Kickbox Bootcamp

No time to exercise? No problem. Instructor Keli Roberts is your guide through five hyperefficient strengthening and toning workouts inspired by military boot camps — and each takes only 10 minutes to complete. So do them all or do just one or two … the mix is up to you. Individual segments include “Basic Training,” “Ultimate Buns and Thighs,” “Arm and Shoulder Sculptor,” “Washboard Abs” and “Fat-Burning Blast.”

I did the TOTAL 50 minute workout. Each part is broken into 10 minute segments with stretches and cooldowns.

TOTAL CALORIE BURN: 708 Calories

  PROS:

Keli is fast and to the point. No frou frou ,annoying voice, or phony baloney crap (which I hate immensely)

Pleasant foreign accent comes with her easy instructions.

You feel intense calorie burn immediately.

Great fluid stretching

Kickboxing moves are very likeable and challenging.

Never got bored during the whole workout.

Complex yet interesting ab/core workout. More for advanced levels though.

CONS:

She moves way too fast during some of the moves. Beginners would have a hard time keeping up.

I had to implement some cardio moves during her fat blasting cardio section, because I couldn’t keep up with her moves and instructions.

This workout is more for intermediate and advanced fitness levels, yet beginners might enjoy it.

YESTERDAY’S  FITNESS DVD REVIEWS

Pick Your Level: Fat to Firm Fast

Multimuscle-group exercises, targeted toning and easy-to-follow cardio segments combine to ensure that you burn calories while strengthening your entire body in these four short workout circuits. Fitness guru Michelle Dozois has designed a program that’s effective for all levels of exercisers by using three instructors for each workout, each of whom demonstrates moves customized for a specific level — beginning, intermediate or advanced.

PROS:

                Fun

Three Levels and Models Provided: Easy, Intermediate, and Advanced

                Easy To Follow

                Good Calorie Burn

Instructor was easy to listen to without being annoying.

CONS:

Some of the exercises moves were difficult to follow. I did advanced level most of the time, but  I switched to easy if it got too hard to follow.

Didn’t burn as much calories as I wanted to burn. I want a good 500 calorie burn when I do a cardio workout.

10 Minute Solution: Target Toning

Who says exercise can’t make a difference in the body when it’s not prolonged and sustained? The producers of the popular 10 Minute Solution series beg to differ, and they’ve designed five separate regimens that can be done in less time than it takes to brew a pot of coffee. Beginners can work the shoulders, glutes, abs, arms and thighs separately, settle in for a short but productive stretch, or put together varied combinations.

PROS:

Easy. Great for beginners.

She includes supersets (working 2 or more muscles in an exercise set).

Great thigh and glutes workout in 20 minutes

CONS:

She can be annoying and seems fake. Repetitive positive reinforcement comes off as phony. Big turnoff for me.

Not enough of a calorie burn.

Thanks for the heads-up on this video being tough on beginners. I love Netflix for the free workouts! I found the Crunch workouts-Ellen Barrett is awesome in them-and ended up buying the Core video after doing it online.

Netflix is wonderful! Exercise on Demand channel is a great way to sample DVD workouts before buying them too. I don’t know how many calories I burned on the toning DVD. Sorry for answering so late. I’ve been busy.
